Dish Network and DirecTV are basically the only two satellite television companies, and both are similar in many respects. The quality of service for both Dish Network and DirecTV are about the same, and the number of channels is about the same. DirecTV used to be the only one of the two that offered high-speed internet via satellite dish, but Dish Network now offers this service with Wild Blue. What are the differences between Dish Network and DirecTV? Dish Network offers many programming packages. Their overall programming packages are a better deal than DirecTV. Some packages start as low as $19.99 per month. Also, some have reported that weather is less a factor in reception with Dish Network than with DirecTV. While rain and clouds can have a noticeable effect on satellite television reception, Dish Network has fewer problems with outages than does DirecTV. Both companies offer great customer service, but Dish Network wins out overall because it is more efficient and friendly than DirecTV. While both Dish Network and DirecTV offer ala carte selections of specific channels you wish to have without buying more expensive packages, DirecTV's ala carte selections cost more in general. Often, you would have to subscribe to a much more expensive package with DirecTV to get the channels you want. With Dish Network now offering satellite internet, it now appears the better value over DirecTV, combining lower prices with great, quality service.
